Campus Profile

Overview

Flour Bluff Independent School District, established in 1937, boasts a rich history and a vibrant educational environment. Spanning a vast area of 156 square miles, including 100 square miles of water and 56 square miles of land, the district is nestled within the captivating Flour Bluff/Padre Island/NAS community. This community has the unique advantage of being a part of the bustling metropolitan Corpus Christi, home to an estimated population of 320,434, offering a myriad of cultural, economic, and educational opportunities.

Despite being connected to the larger city, the community takes immense pride in maintaining its separate independent school district. This district places a strong emphasis on upholding high standards and ensuring local control, which resonates with the community’s sense of identity.

At the Intermediate level, students are engaged in a comprehensive block schedule encompassing Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Physical Education/Fine Arts Elective. The dedicated staff at the Intermediate encourages parents to play an active role in their children’s education by dedicating at least 15 minutes a day to reading together. Additionally, all students receive instruction in Physical Education and Fine Arts. In fifth grade, Fine Arts introduces students to the captivating Kaleidoscope I program, while sixth grade students have the opportunity to choose from an array of electives including Band, Kaleidoscope II, Choir, Spanish Cultural Arts, and Oceans. These Fine Arts programs, apart from Band, Kaleidoscope II, and Choir, which require a one-year commitment, are each a semester in length.

To ensure students’ progress is monitored effectively, student progress reports are distributed every three weeks. These reports should be received by students no later than the Wednesday of the fourth week of each six-week period, unless otherwise communicated. Each grading period comprises a minimum of twelve numeric grades in core subjects such as ELA, Science, Math, and Social Studies. These grades are derived from a variety of assessments, including daily assignments, projects, quizzes, and tests. In support of individual student needs, teachers may assign alternative tasks as necessary.

Report cards are issued to students during the week following the conclusion of each six-week grading period (excluding the final period), unless otherwise informed. Parents are strongly encouraged to make use of the Family Access platform, which provides a convenient way to stay up-to-date on student grades and other essential information.

In summary, Flour Bluff Independent School District offers a diverse and stimulating educational experience within a close-knit community. With its rich history, commitment to high standards, and the advantages of being part of the greater Corpus Christi area, the district continues to foster academic excellence and prepare students for a bright future.
