Literature Pumpkins
Let’s “FALL” into literacy and celebrate books by participating in the
Intermediate Library’s Literature Pumpkin Decorating Contest.
It’s a great way to spend time as a family and enjoy the season!
Decorating Guidelines:
1. All decorating must be done at home with the help of family. Start thinking of ideas now!
Pumpkins will be accepted in the library between Tuesday, October 14th and Monday,
October 27th.
2. Use a smallish pumpkin (not bigger than 10 inches in diameter). Fake pumpkins work as well,
are easier to transport, and last longer.
3. Decorate your pumpkin as your favorite book character. Use your creativity and
imagination. Think outside the pumpkin! (This is not a Halloween pumpkin; it’s a literature
pumpkin!)
4. Along with your pumpkin, create a riddle with clues for people to guess the name of your
character. (Ex. I am extraordinarily large. I have BIG, floppy red ears. My owner’s name is
Emily Elizabeth. Who am I?) Write neatly and legibly and be sure to include the answer to
your clue on the back along with your name and ELA teacher’s name.
5. No carving or candles allowed.
6. The literature pumpkins will be displayed on campus for everyone to enjoy. Awards will be
given out in various categories.
7. Literature pumpkins must be taken home on Wednesday, October 29th. Due to the perishable
nature of live pumpkins, some may be required to go home earlier.
Have a BOOKTACULAR time creating
your literature pumpkins!
